Faith-Based Resources

We all need bite-sized inspiration along our journey, so aside from the ultimate resource, the Bible, this page offers a place to come with your coffee, tea or hot chocolate to browse faith-based resources. This is a work in progress, so please feel free to add your comments. Thanks!

The Life You’re Fighting For
By James Robison

Line We Love:
“If you aren’t aware of this war, you are already losing.”

Brief Review:
Wow, this book really blew us away. It clearly details how a power struggle for our soul rages on, but without 1) knowing this and 2) knowing how to handle it, we can easily fall victim to the constant attack all around us–in relationships, family life, work, friendships and even prayer life. You’re high calling puts you in the unseen spotlight… and a force other than God is also aware of this.

Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires; The Respect He Desperately Needs
By Dr. Emerson Eggerichs

Correlating Bible Verse:
“Each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband” (Ephesians 5:33).

Brief Review:
It may seem like this one verse sums up the whole book (and in some way it does), but there’s so much more here that can truly challenge you to move beyond your comfort zone in your relationship. This book could be a good resource for married couples who want to stay married, engaged couples, relationships in need of repair and more.

faith based motivation bookYour Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential
By Joel Osteen

Line We Love:
“Stop talking to God about how big your mountains are, and start talking to your mountains about how big your God is.”

Brief Review:
If you are looking for encouraging, Christ-centered material that could help lift you up each day, keep you motivated to continue the journey and learn to see God in a new way, this is a recommended resource. In this book, Osteen covers the following topics: enlarging your vision, developing a healthy self-image, discovering the power of thoughts and words, letting go of the past, finding strength in adversity, living to give and choosing to be happy.

Power of Prayer Movie

Faith Like Potatoes

Correlating Bible Verse:
“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)

Brief Review:
We really LOVED this movie, which shows how God works in the lives of ordinary–and sometimes aggro–people. This isn’t just a feel-good movie that shows how one man’s life changed and then he lived happily ever after. This is based on a true story that demonstrates how even after we find God and accept Him in our lives, the trials continue–and sometimes they are harder trials than we ever imagined.

Faith-based Marriage Movie

Fireproof

Line We Love:
“Fireproof doesn’t mean the fire will never come. It means when the fire comes that you will be able to withstand it.”

Brief Review:
This movie stresses never leaving your partner behind, but that unconditional spirit doesn’t come from us. Marriage is sacred when it involves God–and only then can it stand the fires we all face. Introduces the book Love Dare, which inspired me to get it too :) Two thumbs up.

Not Easily Broken

Correlating Bible Verse:
“A threefold cord is not easily broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:12)

Brief Review:
A GREAT movie for married couples. It reminds us that God is the glue that holds together the sacred union of marriage. When we try to do it by our own works, we end up heading down the wrong paths. This couple unfortunately goes through hell and back… but the outcome is inspiring.

St. Giuseppe Moscati: Doctor to the Poor

Line We Love:
“In my nothing I have found everything.”

Brief Review:
A two-part gem of inspiration that shows how one man–Giuseppe Moscati–uses his life to prove that healing isn’t just about medical treatment, but also about compassion and the soul. There seems to be some fiction mixed in to this true story with the love interest (it’s an Italian movie, what do you expect?), but it’s moving nonetheless. I read that Moscati also prescribed “the sacraments” to his patients as part of their treatment.

My husband is a pastor and I work on our church newsletter. We are always looking for good encouraging/inspirational articles. I stumbled onto your website today and was blown away. I would like to copy and use some of your articles (I will give you the credit and acknowledge where I obtained the material). Please let me know if this is ok. I would delete any reference to another article as only the article I am inserting would be available to read from the newsletter. Also, I would put some of your bullet points first to draw in the reader. Please get back to me asap. Thanks again for putting yourself out there for Christ. I see by what others post that you are appreciated by many others already.
